Martine Aubry, Prime Minister.

Well, it seems that the shoe has dropped for Jean Marc Ayerault, after one of the MPs of the PS called for a change of the head of government on public television, the path to his dismissal began. After a fruitless meeting between Ayeraut and the PS MPs, to try and end the current intra-party rift, shocking news were revealed.
While that meeting was happening, Martine Aubry, once one of the leading candidates for Prime Minister immediately after elections and who was stupidly passed over in favor of Ayerault, had a not so secret lunch with Francois Hollande. Only one conclusion came come out of that situation, Ayerault is out of Matignon and Aubry is in. A wise choice.

Passing on Aubry in 2012 for Prime Minister was a bad choice, as Ayerault has proven himself to be an incompetent and weak leader of government who let himself be dominated by stronger characters like Manuel Valls and Arnaud Montebourg. He is also without charisma, charmless and seems to lack leadership capabilities. Aubry on the other hand is fiery, tough talking and no games, she was also a contender in the primary of the PS for the presidential nomination (she would have made a much better president to be honest). She is currently mayor of Lille, was First Sercretary of the PS and held several ministerial positions in France. Once she was passed over for prime minister, she refused any other ministerial position, that alone demonstrates strength of character, something very lacking in Ayerault. Aubry is also the most popular politician with militants of the PS with a 72% approval rating, so nominating her is smart as a tactic to heal the rift between the government and the base of the party. Her being prime minister also weakens her chances of running against Hollande in the PS primaries come 2017.

In conclusion, I am very pleased with this turn of events, Martine Aubry is currently my favorite French politician and seeing her skills wasted only as mayor of Lille was sad. With her strong character, she will be able to bring the wild ministers, mainly Valls and Montebourg, in line. One of the main reason the French government was incompetent was that its two heads, Hollande and Ayerault are weak and feckless men, with the arrival of Aubry, a balance will be established and the government will be healthier. She should have been Prime Minister from the get go, but now that wrong has been righted, and maybe Francois Hollande will begin to have a little luck. Bonne chance Madame Aubry!
