The audacity of Saudi Arabia
So apparently Saudi Arabia has decided to pivot away from America, so the rumors go. Those rumors leaked from the Saudi government, and it was enough to scare John Kerry into hurrying to meet the Saudi Foreign Minister, prince Saud Al-Faisal. The reason, that the United State did not strike Syria and that the country is not giving enough aid to the Rebels.
The Saudis' money has finally gotten to their heads as they are expecting the United States government to carry out their policy goals. It's understandable that they are wary of the wave of refugees leaving Syria, which will only increase instability in the already in stable region. But to expect the United State to put its taxpayers money and take action that is unliked by a wide majority of Americans is amazing!
The Saudi are also complaining about the US having direct negotiations with the Iranian government on nuclear proliferation. Because trying to solve a nuclear situation is just an encumbrance to the Suadis' goal of isolating Iran in the region and wounds the pride of the royal family! Yes, they Saudis have the right to be worried about Iran, they are all in the same region after all, but they are in no case have the right to dictate how the United States conducts its foreign policy. These are thoughts and actions that can only come from a country that is governed like the private property of the Al-Saud family. A country in which all important position are occupied by princes, a country in 2013 that still requires women to have male guardians and bars them from driving. A country with a religious police, a country in which adultery is punished by death and beheads people consistently.
So I say, let them pivot their policies and join with the Chinese or Russians with whom they share the same respect for human rights. Their oil is their only protection but projections have shown that the US will be energy efficient in 2030 and their oil power won't matter anymore but our association with such a backwards state will always hinder our right to preach human rights and respect for women. Let the Saudis alone in the Gulf with no American bases and watch them be attacked by Shiites from all corners. Let the Al-Saud family lead their country and the whole Middle East into increased chaos without US power to back them, hopefully that prideful and conceited family's ego will be brought back to ground.
But our diplomats are always blinded with short term goals so Kerry will go to Paris and try to appease the prince and show that the US stand by our allies. The Suadis will make some protest but renew their commitment to the US, because they would have shown the world that they can make the most powerful country in the world beg for their forgiveness, friendship and alliance. The United State needs to pick better allies and the Al-Saud vultures just don't cut it.
