The craziness of the House GOP

On Thursday, at midnight the Treasury is set to reach the debt ceiling limit and economic havoc unleashed on the global economy. Signs late on Monday morning were all pointing to a deal coming close in the Senate.
Senate Majority leader Harry Reid and Senate Minority leader Mitch McConnell were hashing out the details of a deal that would help lift the ceiling until late February or March and open the government until January, in exchange for budget negotiations. Obviously the GOP has lost their fight as proved by the polls (74% disapproval as opposed to 61% for the democrats, 53% for the president according to the ABC NEWS/Washington Post Poll) the budget negotiations were a bone thrown to the GOP so that they can say they got something. Any sane person would say that this was a perfect situation and the GOP would have time to rebuild and prepare for the 2014 elections. The deal would be accepted, default would be averted. How wrong, the House GOP just cannot stop itself.

This morning the GOP decided to pass their own plan for ending the shutdown and lifting the debt ceiling.  The plan would fund the Government until Jan. 15 and lift the debt ceiling until Feb. 7,all of that sounds fine and reasonable until you see the added Obamacare changes. The bill delays the medical devices tax for two years and end contributions from House members and administration officials. Changes to the president's signature achievement are the reason the shutdown happened and the president has shown resilience not to be taken hostage again by the House GOP. By bringing this proposal that was immediately rejected by the White House, the GOP was doing its best of throwing a wench in the bipartisan proposal that was being developed in the Senate. How could the Senate bipartisan plan pass the House and Senate if the Congressional GOP members are disunited? This was of course the calculations of House GOP leadership, in an attempt to try and get changes on Obamacare in the final packages that will be passed to avert the default of the United States. They are putting face saving measures above that of the entire economy of the United States. The House GOP has always been a bit crazier than the Senate GOP but this takes the cake. The entire economy of the United States is nothing but a tool used in hostage taking to achieve their ridiculous extreme right wing goals.

I sincerely hope that the United States Congress will gather its wits and pass a package that will not allow the greatest country in the history of civilization to not default on its obligations and become the laughing stock of the world. The global economy would sink were a default to happen, many people would lose their jobs and means to provides for their families, financial institutions would be robbed of capital and  chaos and havoc would reign in the global financial system. Hopefully fears of such a situation and cooler heads will prevail on Capitol Hill and the ceiling would be lifted. If not, I hope the citizens of this nation will know were to point the finger, at the House GOP.
