The Government is still shutdown

It was unbelievable when the government shut down seven days ago and it's still unbelievable now. The government closed because the House refused to pass a clean CR bill that would have funded the government until early December while they worked on compromise for raising the debt ceiling. Unfortunately for all of us the Tea Party hijacked everything a decided to attach a de-fund of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) measure as condition for funding the government. The White House and Senate predictably refused. The House offered a delay of a year, the Senate and the administration still refused. The shutdown happened.

Now a week later, the House GOP has decided that another foolish thing is needed, they have decided to tie the debt ceiling and the government shutdown together with Obamacare. They say they will not raise the debt ceiling if Obamacare is not delayed for a year. How can you delay a law that has been in practice for a week? The House presumed leadership, John Boehner mainly, has proven how weak and how scared they are of the Tea Party. They still go by the Hastert Rule, a GOP unwritten law, that a republican speaker won't bring legislation to the floor if there isn't majority republican support. It's a ridiculous rule to apply now, because if Boehner was a leader, he would put a CR on the floor, pass it with democrats and moderate republicans, go on national TV and speak of bipartisanship. But Boehner is first and foremost a politician, and he would surely lose his speakership by taking such actions, so he lets himself and the country be taken hostage by crazy far right extremists. the ambitions of one man are creating problems for million of hard working citizens who have done nothing to merit this.

Party politics aside, how can this be good for the country at any rate? How can the U.S expect our creditor to have full faith in us if we fight and fight until we reach the brink of default? Are our politician blind? This is not how a world class superpower should behave and this is not what people elected government to do. Government is here to protect the people and the people's interests, what you see in DC is politician protecting their interests and ideology while the people suffer and are left to bear the consequences of their foolishness. Hopefully Boehner will have the guts to stand up to the maniac wing of his caucus, the Tea Party really, and do the job the people elected him to do.
